Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, US Highway 160 & US Hwy 163, Monument Valley, UT 84536

The Navajo culture has thrived on the land between the Four Scared Mountains, and those teachings have been inherited through generations of verbal and lesson teaching methods. Some of these teachings are shared with you during the Cultural Tour by your Navajo guide.

The Cultural, 3.5 hour tour makes a first stop at the famous John Ford’s Point where many of John Wayne’s western cinematic movies were filmed. Next, your guide will drive to The Backcountry of the park and escort you to the “Sun’s Eye Arch" and Hogan Demonstration.

At “Sun’s Eye Arch” you will be standing at a specific degree to look up into the rock arch and see why it is named Sun’s Eye. At the same location you will also see Petroglyphs and hear your guide’s stories.

Next, you will travel to the “Big Hogan.” The Big Hogan is a great place to take family pictures and lie against the rocks and feel its warmth. Your guide will provide stories and suggest great photo shots.

The last stop in the Backcountry is the “Ear of the Wind.” This is the largest arch in the park, and your guide will escort you to a photogenic spot where you can take photographs.

Next, you will be guided to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii Monuments where you will be able to take photographs and hear the cultural stories behind each monument. The last stop is at the North Window where you will have a chance to take pictures of the Mittens and Butte at a different angle. Your tour guide will then slowly and safely transport you back to your departure point.

Unfortunately, we cannot give much information about our guides’ stories because each guide has very uniquely different stories to tell. Our guides’ stories come from personal experience, lore, legends and the Navajo culture.

This was a wonderful private tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly as well as being a Native American. He has lived on this reservation for most of his life and is happy to share his life experience. He is also an avid photographer and will assist you with unforgettable photos. Highly recommend him, Harry Nez.

Excellent experience for both kids and adults. We had 4 adults and 7 small kids in our group. We were concerned that it may be too long or too much information for our kids. The many interactive stops kept our little ones engaged and the informative guide made it enjoyable for adults as well. Yvonne was so patient with our adventurous children and gave them time to explore.

The tour itself was very good. Our guide, Harry, was informative and gave lots of personal information and family history, and was a wealth of facts on geology, history, tribal politics/organization, and anthropology. He made a cold rainy day at the site fun with gentle jokes, warm blankets, and he even played music for us, and stopped for a moment to allow a relative (also a tour guide) explain things beyond what he shared. I could have done without the Hogan stop, but I understand this is how people make their money, and COVID has made it a tough year. My only issue was the pick up process. I had booked, via email, a full day tour (Mystery Valley in the morning and Monument Valley in the afternoon.) The staff who emailed with me was great and very responsive. However, I showed up at the office at 8 on the day of my tour and no one was there. I called the number and there was no answer. Finally, a jeep from the company pulled up, and said I had to follow to the View hotel to board, and that the tour I booked was not available due to COVID. I totally understand things change every day, but if someone had called the day before, I could have slept in a bit and gone to the right place.

Harry (Nez) was our tour guide and he was phenomenal. My 14-year-old son said he was cool. My son read the book, “Code Talker” last year so, Nez was sure to mention a lot of history about it. He was incredibly informative and patient. He excited my 17-year-old daughter with some helpful & cool camera tricks/ tips. He kept us all interested and engaged throughout the entire tour.

Our family of 4 (two boys ages 10 an 12) had a magical experience on the cultural your. Harry was a wonderful guide - knowledgeable about both the geology and the history - ancient and recent - of the Valley. He also told stories from his own life mixed in with more general traditions that made the telling very special. At one point my husband teared up by how overwhelmingly beautiful both the landscape and the stories were. I can't recommend it enough. Tips:. As of August 18, 2021 Navajo nation and the park were still requiring masks, even outside, so come prepared. Also, do follow the instructions in your confirmation email to purchase your Monument Valley Park fee in advance. Having the reservation ready on my phone made entry very quick. The tour vegan and needed at the View, and we stayed there overnight, which made for an easier start (and it's also a stunning View from your room, particularly t sunrise. Finally, I believe they had water, but I'm not sure about snacks. We brought plenty of both so didn't need to ask - I was glad we had them as the tour is comprehensive and the kids benefitted from the pick-me-up.

One of the best tours I’ve ever taken in my life. Very educational, very professional guide. His knowledge of Monument Valley and the history of the Navajo people was exemplary. The 3.5 cultural tour was comprehensive and delightful. I highly recommend this type of tour for its thoroughness and in depth knowledge of Monument Valley and the Navajo People. John was our guide.

John was an excellent guide and very knowledgeable with history, culture and geological information. He made the sights come alive with his stories passed down from his grandparents! He even showed us how to get the best photos. This tour is not to be missed!!!
